Thirteen controls
Everything adjusts from the Inspector
No Fusion, no keyframes. The controls sit in three collapsible blocks inside the Resolve Inspector.

Animation
Sweep duration in frames, start delay, loop on or off, and reverse direction. Speed is typed in frames — nothing to animate by hand.

Light beam
Width, angle and edge softness. Plus the double beam: a second thinner line behind the main one, the classic glass shine, with adjustable spacing.

Colour and intensity
Light colour, glow strength, halo size around the beam, and overall blend for when the shine covers too much of the object.

How it works
Three steps and you have the shine

Install
Quit Resolve and double-click the .drfx file. Resolve opens by itself and asks whether to install it. Say yes and you are done — same on Windows and Mac.

Prepare the cut-out
Shine lights up whatever is inside the silhouette. With a transparent PNG or a title it is already done. For an object in your footage, cut it out with Magic Mask or by hand — it is all explained step by step.

Drag and tweak
Search for "Shine" in the Effects panel and drop it on the cut-out clip. The light is already travelling across the object. The rest is fine-tuned in the Inspector.

What people ask me most
Does the effect cut the object out for me?
No, and this is the key thing to understand. Shine only makes the light: it reads the transparency of the clip you drop it on to know where to stay. The cut-out is made beforehand, separately. The tutorial covers the three ways to get one, from the easiest (a transparent PNG, already cut out) to isolating an object from your footage.
I applied it and the light sweeps the whole screen — is it broken?
No, it is working correctly: the clip you dropped it on has no transparency, so there is no silhouette to crop into. Apply it to the cut-out clip instead. That said, that behaviour is useful too: over a normal shot it works nicely as a transition or to animate backgrounds.
Do I have to set keyframes?
Not one. Speed is set in frames: you type how many frames the light should take to cross, and it moves on its own. You can also add a start delay so the shine lands exactly when the product appears.
Does it work on text and titles?
Yes, and it is one of the best uses for it. Resolve titles already carry their own transparency, so there is nothing to prepare: drag the effect on top and the light runs across the letters.
Can I change the colour of the light?
Yes. It defaults to a warm white, but there is a colour control to match your brand. The tutorial includes a ready-made cyan neon combination, for example.
Can I use it in client work?
Yes, unlimited personal and commercial use. The only thing you cannot do is resell or redistribute the effect file itself.
