Audio only plays from one side in DaVinci Resolve — how to fix it
Why your wireless microphone only plays from one speaker and how to fix it in DaVinci Resolve — clip by clip, in the Media Pool, or across a whole timeline at once.
You record an interview, cut it together, hit play… and the voice comes out of the left speaker only. The right one is silent. If that sounds familiar, there is a reason and a fix.
Why it happens
It is not a fault in the microphone or the recording. It is how dual wireless microphone kits work — the usual setup with two transmitters and one receiver.
Each transmitter records to a different channel: mic 1 to the left channel, mic 2 to the right. That is correct behaviour, because it lets you treat each voice separately afterwards.
The problem shows up when only one person is talking. You record with a single transmitter, that goes to channel 1, and channel 2 stays empty. Once cut together, that silence goes to one speaker and your voice to the other.
On headphones it is deeply uncomfortable. And if someone watches it on a phone with a single speaker, they may hear nothing at all.
Quick check: look at the clip’s waveform in the timeline. If you see one band with peaks and a flat one right below it, this is your problem.
The fix: which channel feeds each output
What you need to do is tell Resolve that the channel that actually holds the voice should feed both outputs. Then it plays centred.
This is not about raising volumes or adding effects: it is about changing where each output draws from.

There are three ways to do it, depending on where you are in the process.
Option 1 — A single clip
The classic route, fine for getting out of trouble:
- Right-click the clip in the timeline
- Clip Attributes
- Audio tab
- Under Format, leave it as Stereo
- For each output, pick the source channel that has the voice. Usually channel 1 for both
Accept and that clip now plays centred. Perfect if you have three or four clips.
Option 2 — Before editing, from the Media Pool
This is the good one, and the one that avoids the problem entirely. Do it before you start cutting.
- In the Media Pool, select every affected clip at once
- Right-click → Clip Attributes
- Audio tab, then set the format and channels
That dialogue does apply to the whole selection at once. Ten seconds and fifty clips are fixed.
The catch is that it only works on clips you have not cut into a timeline yet. If your edit is already built, changing the clips in the Media Pool does not update what is already on the timeline.
Option 3 — When the timeline is already built
This is where people despair, because there is no option in Resolve to do it in bulk. You are back to option 1, clip by clip.
With three clips that is a moment. With fifty, it is an afternoon of repetitive clicking.
And be careful: you cannot just rebuild the edit from scratch with corrected clips, because you would lose your cuts, transitions and grading.
If you have two microphones in the same timeline
This case is a little trickier. Some clips are from mic 1 and others from mic 2, so you cannot apply the same setting to everything.
The tidy way to work it is in passes: first set the whole timeline to channel 1, then go back over the other mic’s clips and set those to channel 2.
To group them, clip colour works well: select the mic 2 clips, right-click → Clip Color → whichever colour you like, and now you can tell them apart at a glance.
What NOT to do
Do not just convert the clip to mono. You would lose the ability to separate the two voices if you ever record with two mics.
Do not raise the volume of the empty channel. There is nothing to raise: it is silent. You would only amplify background noise.
Do not fix it with panning. Centring the pan mixes both channels together, so your voice drops in level and the empty channel’s noise joins the mix.
And if your timeline is already cut and there are a lot of clips
That is exactly the situation Resolve has no native answer for, and the reason I ended up writing a tool for it.
